| GRANTS
From the time
of the first grant issued in August, 1997 to the last grants issued
in December, 2002, the Foundation has granted out or committed to
grant out more than $200,000. In 1998, the Foundation funded the
first comprehensive Golden Retriever health study. Through the Buckman
Fund established by the Golden Retriever Club of America at the
AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF), the GRF's health grants are
stretched by the CHF's policy of matching funds.
When the Foundation
was launched, there were two giving sites: rescue and general. Since
that time, other dedicated giving sites have been established. In
the fall of 1999, Mary and Bill Glenn donated $10,000 to establish
the Zeke Cancer Research Fund in memory
of their beloved Golden lost to cancer. In August, 2000, the GRF
awarded the first Zeke Fund grants to three CHF sponsored studies.
In the summer
of 2000, the remainder of the April Fund
was donated to the GRF. This fund originally paid the medical expenses
for rescued Goldens from puppy mills. The Foundation added money
to the April Fund and expanded the purpose of this fund to include
rescued dogs from any origin.
